The Compound Effect Book Review
One book that has stuck with me, that I will always go back to from time to time is The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy. I picked this book up about 5 years ago, as a part of a business book club, and honestly thought ‘yeah let’s see where this goes.’ I do love to read, that’s a fact, but a book either grasps my attention pretty quickly or I move on to the next book. This book had me quickly intrigued. How the power of one small thing over time can compound to something amazing, took control and made me realize we all want to jump in and expect great results quickly, however it’s a lot of little things daily over time that truly cause big results.
The Gratitude Journal Fix
Some things I’ll never forget about this book, it wasn’t just business goals, but life lessons. I like the story about how Darren talked about a friend who was over their spouse and wanted to end their marriage, he told this friend to write down every day something they were thankful for when it came to their spouse. The results were amazing, and the marriage grew stronger because of one person’s small but compound actions.
Who knew being thankful and full of gratitude daily can help not only your attitude but your marriage and relationships? Again, this is the Compound Effect of a small gratitude daily to change your mindset and we all have something to be thankful for, right?
Favorite Takeaways From The Compound Effect
Some of my favorite quotes come from this book too, here’s a few to get you hooked on this book:
“You alone are responsible for what you do, don’t do, or how you respond to what’s done to you”
And I also love this one!
“This book is about success and what it really takes to earn it. It’s time someone told it to you straight. You’ve been bamboozled for too long. There is no magic bullet, secret formula, or quick fix. You don’t make $200,000 a year spending two hours a day on the Internet, lose 30 pounds a week, rub 20 years off your face with a cream, fix your love life with a pill, or find lasting success with any other scheme that is too good to be true. It would be great if you could buy your success, fame, self-esteem, good relationships, and health and well-being in a nicely clam-shelled package…”
Now that you’re hooked (you are going to read it right?), you can find The Compound Effect here and there are options to read a book, on your Kindle or an audiobook option.
How do I Apply This to My Social Media?
Let’s take this a little further and apply The Compound Effect to Social Media and show you how it all relates.
You have to be present on social media every single day. How long does it take to make a post, probably 5-10 minutes for most people, make sure it is what your target audience wants to see though. After you’ve been present on social media consistently for 3-6 months, start recycling that content that did well and start using it on other platforms. Things you post will not resonate with everyone, but it will resonate with someone.
You need to be social on social media every single day. How long does it take to make some new friends, new genuine friends that could be your friend in real life…10-20 minutes a day. Let’s say you make 1 new friend a day on social media, that is 365 new friends every single year, tell me what networking group you can go to and gain that many friends in a year much less learn this much about your new friend?
After you have made these new friends, you have to be social with them. It’s social media right? So taking another 10-20 minutes a day, really check up on your friends, comment, be geniune and be present in their post, read it & if you can relate or have further questions then comment! Love on people, don’t we need more of that in this world? Be a friend, give advice if they ask for it, make suggestions about the best drycleaner in town or this new recipe you tried. If you are in whatever your job is because you truly love helping people, this will be a piece of cake!
So I am sure you are all thinking, where do they buy in this process? Well, trust me if you are being geniune they will see what you do. Does it mean they will buy? No, nothing is guaranteed. But there is this thing called word of mouth and once people know what you do, see results you can bring or see that the products you provide are great, that is when things start to fall into place.
Is there a magic pill for social media? No…is there one for getting rich or losing weight?
How fast will I see results? Everyone is different, I can tell you though if you are consistent, you WILL see results.
